Kishi was Katara's starter Pokemon. The two are as close as sisters despite not being able to communicate verbally. Katara is protective and nurturing with Kishi. Because Kishi is large and cumbersome on land she only usually comes out for training, battling, or when they're relaxing where there's plenty of room for her to fit comfortably. They usually can be found napping and sunning together on a beach or near water. She was very well behaved towards Heiji for the duration of her stay with him, and would listen to his commands if he returned and the need arose. She might have a docile, gentle temperament but she's very protective over Katara and her companions and friends. She's also very affectionate to these people, nuzzling and nudging, and giving rides. Ever been treated to a Kishi kiss? Don't get too close unless you're itching to be. Though she reached level 100 during both of Katara's previous stays in Johto she has been reset to level 30 upon Katara's return.

Jet was given to Katara by Tohru, who found him wandering around but felt Katara would be a better trainer for him. She named him Jet after a friend who died a few months before she came to Johto. He's usually out of his ball when they're on the move because Kishi has a harder time moving on land. Due to his time with Wally while Katara was gone he's willing to listen to Wally's commands or allow Wally or his companions use him for transport without burning them.
Because of Katara's absence (and the time spent with Winry) Jet will need to work with Katara for a few weeks before he listens to her instructions in battle again. He will allow her to use him for transportation and he will protect her and those with her from harm, but he'll do it HIS way, proving that maybe he's taken more after his namesake than Katara ever realized.

Shortly after Guybrush vanished for home Katara found Carla, as a Cubone, wandering outside of Cherrygrove. Since Cubone isn't a native species to the area she thought something was odd. Claire confirmed it later that Carla belonged to a friend who went home. Katara took extra care with Carla as she understood how it felt losing a mother, and friends.
Carla spent some time with Youji, and seemed to have become protective over Ariel following his disappearance from Johto. She also spent some time with Winry, and would listen to her in Katara's stead. As if that time together weren't enough reason alone there's also Katara and Winry's sister-like bond to consider and all the time they spent in the same traveling party.
Unlike Jet and Arnook, Carla is willing to listen to Katara in battle still. Carla has taken the unlikely maternal role over Arnook ever since the three went to Winry's custody. The two are often together training.
She still tends to hit new people with her bone to show affection.

Arnook used to let the older female members of Katara's team baby him a bit. He enjoyed it while he was young, but once he got older he's started to try acting much tougher so he's not thought of as a "sissy" or a "baby" by others, though he’ll still allow Kishi and Carla to do so when no one is looking. Grudgingly. Even though it was out of her control Arnook spent the first few months of her return angry with Katara for abandoning him and the others. For a long time he wouldn't listen to her in battle and he seemed to prefer keeping his distance. This could also have been in part due to losing track of everyone else when Katara left.
When Sokka returned home it seemed like enough of a catalyst for Arnook to cut Katara some slack. His protective nature kicked in and finally it seems like Katara has earned his forgiveness. He evolved not long after Zuko returned home, taking it upon himself to look after Katara in the boys' stead. As such he's begun listening to her in battle again, though he's quick to jump to her defense. It might take some time to reach his keel. He still spends the most time with Carla, Jet, and Kishi.
Now it's his turn to look after the younger members of the team, and he takes his role as older brother very seriously. He has a gruff personality and doesn't often engage in play, but does keep a mindful eye on the rookies like Carla once did for him.

Kuzon didn’t get named for a little while, but eventually Katara settled on Kuzon as a way to remember Aang, also because giving him a Water Tribe name just wouldn’t be quite right. Like many of his species he is hot headed, proud of his power (a bit vainly so), and likes to test the limits of Katara’s skill as a trainer. He listens to Jet more than anyone else on the team, believing fire types are superior to most other types. As a result it often falls to Jet to help Katara reel him in. He is constantly eager to train, however, in order to get stronger. His poor temperament is matched only by his dedication to becoming stronger. As Katara gains more badges they might overcome their differences, but for now it seems unlikely.

Suluk has the patience of a saint. He met Katara during her visit to Tohjo Falls while she was letting Arnook and Nikta out to stretch their legs. His first reaction to seeing Arnook was to challenge him to a battle, but because of his type advantage and Arnook’s refusal to listen to Katara in battle the Riolu was taken by surprise and quickly overcome. It was Katara’s and Nikta’s teamwork that won the battle and made Suluk decide he wanted to be a part of her team. True to his nature he’s very docile and also incredibly loyal. Despite Katara’s lack of badges he seems to respect her wisdom and the compassion she has for every member of her team, even the unruly ones. His obedience in battle has earned him a permanent spot on Katara’s roster.

Nikta is fascinated by humans. She refuses to evolve until she's mastered human speech because she wants to learn as much as she can about them and fears that evolution will change her pattern of speech too much. She is a very hard worker, but loves nothing more than to research and learn about humans, their lore, and anything that she doesn't know. She is also unafraid to jump right into new experiences and is overall amiable with other people and pokemon.
Since being adopted Nikta has been encouraged to pursue her interests. Once Katara picked up on her interest in humans she began letting her out of her ball more often. She is now one of Katara’s most steadfast companions, along with Kishi, Carla, and Jet. She (willingly) wears a collar with an Everstone in the center, as a pendant, but is more interested in learning than training or fighting and even though she will fight when needed Katara doesn't force her to. Her leveling is much slower as a result.

Kohta was a playful little cub when he first hatched, quickly getting buddy buddy with the Nido-twins, Nikta, and Arnook. Until Arnook evolved he was looked to as the ring leader whenever the five were loose together, but once Kohta evolved into Luxio he took up that mantle. Now that he's reached his final form, Luxray, he definitely has an air of authority about himself. The Nido-twins might be too big to need to follow orders one day, but for now they still consider Kohta the leader of the pack and it's not hard to see why.
Towards others Kohta is quiet and somewhat aggressive, as is the nature of his species. When Katara is camping he can usually be seen patrolling or prowling the perimeter, just as much curious as he is wary in a new place. He distrusts any trainers/breeders/humans and their Pokemon if they aren't a part of Katara's "pack", but he'll tolerate them unless they seem to pose a threat. Anyone besides Katara who tries to pet him will receive a nasty shock as punishment, though he seems far more tolerant of children and smaller Pokemon. It's the big ones who should know better.

Rough is part of a match set. It was pure coincidence that Katara managed to get both a male and female egg when she bought the pair, but they quickly proved to be inseparable after that. Rough and Tumble work well together when they aren't busy bickering (which they tend to do when Katara isn't giving orders in a battle). It's all in the name of being siblings, though. They've been that way ever since they first hatched. They butt heads because they're so similar. Neither of them are really the quiet type so they're constantly competing for top spot- play wrestling, racing, just competing against each other in general. Both more brawn than brain, they're brawlers.
Rough does differ from Tumble in that he can be kind of lazy at times, something that irks his sister more as they get older (and bigger) and he becomes harder to rouse for a friendly match. When this giant decides he wants to move or when Katara calls him to action, though, you'd better not be in the way. Dude is an absolute TANK.
Because of how close the two are with their varying move sets they're one of Katara's go to tag team pairs.

Unalaq is definitely the energetic member of the team, but he comes as a package deal. He and Miki are a team. By himself Unalaq is an entertainer through and through, making a show of everything from simple tasks like perching on Katara’s shoulder to following her commands in battle. He’s still learning, but by the time he levels up he’ll probably have his routine polished and downpat. Because of how well he works with Miki it’s likely that the two will be her go-to choice for tag team battles.

When Katara came back and found Nari gone she knew immediately that she wanted to have a Pikachu on her team again. It wasn't about replacing Nari, and she wrestled with it for a long time, but Pikachu have a special place in her heart because they remind her of Momo.
When she found out about Emolga she decided to get both, thinking as electric types they could probably keep each other company and that Emolga could teach Pichu control that Katara herself couldn't.
Miki and Unalaq immediately grew close, and Katara was glad for her decision. Miki is sort of spoiled, Katara gives her fresh fruit on a fairly regular basis, remembering that another Pichu she used to know really well had a fondness for apples. Miki likes to perch on Katara's shoulder and head for balance, just like Nari did, but... there are one or two things that sets them apart.
For one, Unalaq and Miki are a team of performers. Where Nari was one of Katara's solo heavy hitters Miki and Unalaq work really well in tandem. That goes for in battle and out. Because Unalaq can fly they tend to stay out of one another's way, but even on the ground or in the trees the two have learned to navigate around one another smoothly. Miki doesn't have the same brute strength that Nari did, as her special attack stat suffers as a result of her nature. Instead her defense stat is boosted and she has an emphasis on agility, so while Unalaq deals the damage Nari gets in close, causes a distraction, evades, and then surprises her opponents by still being able to take the damage that they dish out. Most mistake her evasion as a means of avoiding damage, rather than realizing that she's just buying time and keeping them focused on the "weaker" target.
Miki also has a weakness for shiny things- particularly with a reflective surface. Katara suspects that she's trying to make sure she looks good for someone else on the team but hasn't been able to figure out who, yet.
Or maybe she just likes the light or the rainbow colors that the mirror surfaces make at the right angles, who knows.
Miki is also a bit of a tomboy. Her fur is a bit thicker in places, flaring up a bit at the back of her neck and the base of her ears. She hates it when Katara tries to brush it down so Katara tends to leave her be unless it's time to get clean.

Kaya is like Katara's second baby, after Kishi (who never really grew out of it). As an Eevee she was incredibly affectionate, not just towards Katara and Kishi (who both mothered her a lot) but every member of the team. She even managed to get past the gruff exteriors of some of the grouchiest, and whenever someone was in a bad mood she could always be found faithfully at their side.
She seemed to have a knack for being, well... adorable without trying. She was a determined little thing, too, and when Katara made the decision to evolve her she wasn't even surprised that Kaya chose the water stone.
All the traits that she had as an Eevee remain now that she's a Vaporeon, only now she has an obvious, natural grace. Kaya remains loyal, determined, and caring, playful and sweet, but she's also matured. Her ability to follow instructions remained as well.
She's another staple of Katara's team.

DORKY. Wang is a tribute to Katara's brother, Sokka, because naming a fire dog Sokka just seems wrong but he definitely reminds her of her older sibling. She doesn't have to speak Pokemon to know that he's telling horribly cheesy jokes to the others, mainly to Chimchar or the Nido-twins. He's definitely the funny guy. He also tries hard and is extremely diligent. That's about where the similarities end. He's eager to please and is basically one of the team tanks, and best cuddler. Whenever he's on her roster Katara is getting a dose of her own medicine. While she's busy fussing after others and being motherly Wang is the one herding her to the table or to bed if he doesn't think she's moving fast enough.
They finally decided to evolve him when he hit level 60. His disposition hasn't changed much, if at all. Now he's just way bigger and there's a lot more fluff involved when he decides to show affection. Now that he's big enough to ride (and getting a little bigger every month) he's seeing more action on the roads. Nothing like the bond between a Water Tribe girl and her giant Fire Dog, right?

Shu is extremely relaxed and has something of a short term memory. Her most defining trait is probably her long temper and Katara's training method with her. She's incredibly slow to anger, but when she does it usually explodes for a short while until she's calmed down and forgotten what she was angry about.
Because she's on the forgetful side she can only remember a handful of moves at any given time. This means she doesn't see a great deal of battle but she sees enough to help the others train. Her leveling is MUCH slower as a result.

Nini is not exactly your typical Haunter, nor was she your typical Gastly. Katara doesn't like keeping Pokemon in the box but Nini absolutely freaks her out. During her previous visit she caught a Gastly who wasn't too much trouble, so she decided to have one on her team the second time around as well, so she purchased a Gastly egg from Mayu.
Unfortunately, Nini seems to have a very sullen disposition. Most of the time she simply floats around staring balefully at people, especially Katara. She doesn't actually mean anything by it but because of her calm and serious nature coupled with the natural look of a Gastly's eyes it just comes across as looking rather malicious. Katara has tried her best to get past it, none the less, and worked with Nini when she had free time from training the rest of the team.
Only during the daylight hours, though...
Once Nini evolved things seemed to lighten up as she found her sense of humor as a Haunter. As it turns out, though, she still has rather creepy tastes and seems to greatly enjoy creeping people out by presenting herself in as terrifying a light as possible. We're not talking harmless sudden faces, but full on shit-eating-grin, manic-eyed type expressions. In the end Katara really doesn't get her out as much as she wants to feel comfortable doing, but she's made a promise to both Nini and herself that she WILL have her day.

Super Spider was Sokka's starter during his third (to Katara's knowledge) and most recent visit. She first met him when she and Zuko went to pick up Sokka from the ferry, and he was the friendliest bug type that she'd ever met. After her experiences with a trickster Ariados, and given that he was Sokka's Pokemon she half expected a similar attitude. It's true that he likes having fun and seems to take after his trainer, but he also regards Katara as if she were family. They didn't really have any problems getting him to listen to her.
Finding his Pokeball the day Sokka was returned home was painful- it always will be -but she was glad to know where he ended up. He's her primary bug battler and he'll be getting his time in the spotlight.

Iqniq is a showboat and a hard worker. She is extremely proud of her power to the point of sometimes being arrogant despite her actual inexperience and age. She'll definitely TRY to assert her place on Katara's roster as one of her prominent fire or fighting type battlers, holding jealousy towards Jet and Arnook because of their strength and their bond with Katara. She'll use any opportunity she can to try to be the center of attention, to show off. As a Chimchar this means she'll be trying hard to learn moves that she's not quite ready for yet. Any attempts to assure her that she doesn't need to rush her growth and development will result in making her even more determined.
While Arnook and Jet couldn't really care less, Iqniq will take their "rivalry" quite seriously. Kuzon will not wish to be bothered with her either, finding her arrogance grating, particularly because he is the exact same way.
The older members of the team (Kishi, Carla, Jet, Arnook, and Suluk) probably won't be too fussed by her, and Zuko's Chimchar might take a liking to her, but she's likely to snub him a bit.
Katara will definitely have her hands full keeping the peace with Iqniq around...

"Hatched from Temeraire's Christmas 2012 egg. She's got lots of bark, and plenty of bite to go with it. She's brash and bold and loves to battle, and to Temeraire and Reliant's chagrin doesn't bother enough with appearances to take good care of her shiny scales. She isn't a bully, but even Temeraire can tell that she's rude, and is trying to teach her how to be polite and educated. She is having none of it."
Since joining Katara's team unexpectedly she is having no more of Katara's "orders" than she was learning manners. Though Katara tries not to be too bossy with her given the recent loss of her trainer they do butt heads often. Shimmer is practically Toph, if Toph could breathe fire instead of throw rocks. The lack of pride in her appearance, her preference for rowdier activities, and her refusal to heed anything Katara says reminds her a lot of the friend left back home. When Shimmer sets her mind on something she isn't letting anyone change her mind.
The one good thing is that having Shimmer around seems to be enough to prompt Kuzon's competitive streak. UNfortunately they both have rash natures and similar personalities... so usually having both of them out at the same time is a bad idea. It just ends up with the two competing against one another rather than being productive and getting anything done. For the time being Katara keeps them apart, because she got really tired, really fast of having to put out fires around the area.
